Pyongyang Kim Won Gyun Conservatory

The Pyongyang Kim Won Gyun Conservatory is situated on the bank of the picturesque Taedong River in the capital Pyongyang.
The conservatory was established as the National Music School on March 1, Juche 38(1949).
It was reorganized into the Pyongyang University of Music and Dance in February Juche 61(1972) and named after composer Kim Won Gyun who made a great contribution to developing the musical art of the country in May Juche 95(2006).
The conservatory has wonderful educational and living conditions such as the main building, building of specialist courses, 800-seat music hall, small halls, accessory building, dormitory, refectory, gymnasium and cultural and welfare facilities.
It has authoritative teachers and researchers with high artistic qualifications for education, scientific research and art creation.
It also has the Korean National Music Institute and an orchestra, which make an active contribution to the musical education and development.
In the past, the conservatory pioneered new subjects and wrote and created a lot of books, textbooks, reference books, music for teaching and musical pieces.
It has put the musical education on a highly modern and IT basis.
The conservatory was awarded the Order of Kim Il Sung and the Order of the National Flag 1st Class and produced lots of recipients of orders and honorary titles, holders of academic degrees and titles and international contest winners.
Many of its graduates grew to be talented creators and artistes, making an active contribution to the development of national music and the cultural life of the people at the State Merited Chorus and other national art organizations and art educational institutions.
