The song "March of Korea" is one of many musical pieces registered in the history of musical art of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
It was written and composed by People's Artist Kim Won Gyun who performed great feats for the development of musical art of Korea.
Kim Won Gyun created the song on August 16, Juche 34(1945), the day after Korea was liberated from the colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists.
The national liberation was a great event that brought about the birth of new human beings in Korea which had been distressed by the oppression of the Japanese imperialists for decades as well as the dramatic turn of their destiny.
The whole country was in festive mood and the streets and villages were crowded with people shouting "Long Live Korea's Liberation!" and "Long Live General Kim Il Sung!".
Together with them, Kim Won Gyun shouted hurrah at the top of his voice. Coming back home, he picked up the guitar and began to write lyrics and set them to music representing the emotion he felt on the day.

Forward, 30 million fellow countrymen
Forward, long live democratic Korea

This is how the song vividly representing the historic moment of national liberation which brought the light to the people and the looks of liberated Korea in the first step of building a thriving country came into being.
As soon as it was created, the song "March of Korea" rapidly spread to all parts of the country, infusing the people with the joy of liberation and the enthusiasm for nation building.
After that, other songs of struggle and advance were created one after another, which represented the high enthusiasm of the people for nation building.
The song "March of Korea" is kept deep in memory of the Korean people as the first song of new Korea.
