Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Unrestrained by the existing formula, young builders of the DPRK in the 1950s achieved the great feat of completing the Haeju-Hasong railway extending over 80 kilometers in a short span of time.
This miracle is a proud achievement made thanks to the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung and an outcome from the devoted efforts of the youth of the Chollima age who possessed fiery enthusiasm that can break mountains and fill seas on the road to implement his intention.
The President laid out a plan to remove the old, narrow railway between Haeju and Hasong and build a wider one to resolve the strained transportation and provide the people with convenience.
When visiting the construction site in June Juche 47 (1958), he praised the builders for having done a lot of work in a short time and said that they were performing an unprecedented miracle.
That day, he studied the master plan of the construction and acquainted himself with the construction sites and progress, saying that builders should not trespass on the farmlands as railway project is all for the good of the people, and gave instructions to build it between mountains and lakes.
Concerned of the builders' health, he inspected the dining hall and even tasted the food for the builders.
Ever after his inspection, he continued to learn about the construction progress and living conditions of the builders and resolved the knotty problems while sending many construction machines, materials, equipment and even instruments for leisure activities.
The wise leadership and warm love of the President served as the strength and courage of the builders, inspiring them to perform great feats.
The desire of the young builders to implement the President's intention at all costs swept the construction sites and miracles catching the eyes of the world were made one after another in the struggle of collective innovation.
Thus, the Haeju-Hasong railway project, which had been thought to be completed in 3 to 4 years, was completed in less than 75 days and went operational on August 12, 1958. -0-
