At a Small Greenhouse

Officials and agricultural workers of the Songhak Farm in Anju City still remember the benevolent image of the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un who inspected the greenhouse built by the farm in June, Juche 102 (2013), to express satisfaction at the fact that they had built the greenhouse by actively utilizing locally available materials and earnestly request that the greenhouse had to actually benefit the farmers.

What he put emphasis on was the problem of doing greenhouse farming on a scientific basis.

He said that the yield per certain area must be increased in greenhouse farming, noting that the greenhouse must be built in conformity with the climate and natural features of the locality and production be put on a scientific and technological footing.

He taught that conditions like temperature, humidity, light and soil must be well provided to suit the characteristics of the crops and that high yields could be attained when the crops were arranged according to biological features.

He also emphasized that chemical fertilizers along with organic ones must be applied in plenty in order to cultivate vegetables for several rounds a year.

He reminded them of a great teacher who trains them to be intelligent workers doing farming in reliance on the might of science.

With his image kept in their hearts, those of the Songhak Farm strive to operate the greenhouse to meet the scientific and technological demands and produce vegetables in large amounts regardless of the season.

Teaching the Key to Increased Production

One day in July, Juche 107 (2018), the respected General Secretary inspected the Junghung Farm in Samjiyon City.

Although he was busy taking care of the affairs of the country, he visited the farm to personally learn the practical issues arising in putting the potato farming on a higher scientific level and to take measures.

Looking round a potato plot under the workteam 1 of the farm, he inquired the situation that year, noting that damage by potato blight and heavy rain affect the potato yield every July. He underscored the need for the agricultural field to take thoroughgoing measures of agricultural technique to prevent damage by low temperature and blight, the most knotty problem in potato farming in northern alpine area.

He said that the agronomists and persons in charge of plots should enhance their responsibility and role so as to intensify prediction and forecast of potato blight and that a strict step should be taken to secure agricultural chemicals and immediately and intensively spray them upon potato plants in sickness.

He stressed the need to improve the fertility of soil of potato fields and conduct in a scientific and technical way the manuring and cultivation of potato fields including weeding, earthing up, fertilizing and extermination of harmful insects.

Like this, the field guidance of the respected General Secretary that day served as a meaningful occasion which taught the agricultural workers the truth that scientific farming is the key to increased production.
