The Koryo obstetrical and gynecological department of Hamhung College of Medical Sciences ensures that all teaching is directed to maximizing the cognitive effects for students and improving their creative abilities.
A remarkable thing is that new teaching methods are devised with a correct methodology in keeping with the specific features of the department.
The department makes sure that lecturers attach importance to theoretical education and make effective use of teaching aids including all kinds of models similar to real things so that students can have a correct understanding of the human body.
Department chief Om Hyon Chol recalled that the department failed to narrow down the difference between cognitive and practical abilities of students in the past.
To resolve the matter, it channelled efforts into the making of models and tools needed for teaching.
“Ordinary teaching aids, models and tools were not enough, so the department decided to get every lecturer to make teaching aids conducive to maximizing students’ perception in lectures whose contents are hard to understand,” said Om.
The cognitive and practical abilities of students have remarkably improved as the lecturers introduced many models, tools and teaching aids to which VR and AR technologies were applied.
Subsequently, the number of academic degree holders has increased among the lecturers.
Another eye-catcher is that students consolidate what they learned at lectures through experiments and practical training.
At a meeting of lecturers an opinion was voiced that some students properly grasped the contents of lectures, but their performances were not so good in practice.
Therefore, the department made sure that lecturers complete new teaching plans for experiments and practical training by incorporating in them the valuable experience they gained in clinical practice.
Such teaching plans have proved effective in fostering the practical abilities and skills of students.
“It is imperative to find out practical ways to meet your characteristic features and specific conditions,” said the department chief.
