Chinese Press Blames the U.S. for Obstructing Global Economy Recovery

Date: 30/01/2023 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

A few days ago Chinese newspaper Global Times carried an article under the title “U.S. the biggest obstructer of global economy in 2023”.

The article expressed concern that although high inflation, geopolitical conflict, and regional economic uncertainty are the biggest worries, together with the COVID-19 pandemic for the global economy in 2023, the fragmentation of the supply chains by the U.S. is bound to seriously affect the global economy.

Then it disclosed that the U.S. is in discussions with several countries and regions over restricting semiconductor exports to China.

In conclusion, the article said that Washington's attempt to contain China's rise is not in line with the interests of most countries in the world, including the U.S. and that if it continues on the path of industrial fragmentation, it will be the number one obstructer of the global economy.

In the last year, as with the years before, the U.S. put maximum efforts into checking China’s economic rise. This can be seen through the fact that it enacted the Chip and Science Act and attempted to create “Chip 4” with the aim of excluding China from global supply chain and international technological cooperation and gradually increased the sanctions against China’s advanced technology companies.

The international society is ever concerned that the world will hardly escape from stagnation in the near future owing to the global pandemic, rise in energy prices and shortage of food etc. Against this backdrop, however, the U.S. is hell-bent on pressure on a specific country. This is an utterly useless act of doing only harm to the development and prosperity of the region and the world.

The international press and experts are analyzing the main reason behind the slow global economy growth in connection with the arbitrariness of the U.S. which employs all kind of means and methods to contain other countries’ rise while pursuing hegemony in the fields of economy and science and technology.
