The 75-year-long history of the ever victorious DPRK armed forces also tells a story of love about flying an air-force plane for a foreign girl’s health.
On July 10, 1949, soon after the foundation of the Republic, President Kim Il Sung called a deputy regimental commander of the KPA air force.
He told him that the daughter of the ambassador of the Soviet Union to the DPRK was very sick with cough and that her parents were sitting up all nights as the medicines did not help her improve.
The President then suggested that the girl flies on a plane as the parents thought that she could stop coughing if she breathed for some time at a low atmospheric pressure, lower than the standard atmospheric pressure.
The deputy regimental commander couldn’t repress his surprise.
It was not easy to fly a military plane merely for a child under a tense situation where the U.S. imperialists and the Syngman Rhee puppet clique frequently perpetrated war provocations against the north to nip our Republic in the bud.
But the President said that nothing should be spared for children, no matter how tense and difficult the situation and circumstances might be, and took a benevolent step.
He asked him at what height the standard atmospheric pressure was to be reduced by half. He also gave a special assignment to the deputy regimental commander with high flying skill to take the ambassador’s daughter on a plane and make a 20 or 30-minute flight at an altitude of 4 000 meters.
Still less assured, he repeatedly said in earnest that a special care should be taken to control the plane well as he was carrying a sick child on board, and warmly said that he would personally send medicine for her treatment.
This is how a legend-like story about a plane flying for a child came to be handed down for the first time in the history of our air force. Thanks to the warm care of the President, the ambassador’s daughter finally recovered from her illness.
President Kim Il Sung was really a benevolent father who took care of not only our people but also the world progressive people, holding them in his embrace with the noble love for human beings and great magnanimity.
