Japan Should Reflect on Concern of International Society

Date: 24/02/2023 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

In disregard of the concern of the international society and the safety of humankind, Japan is now persisting in its impudent plan to discharge the radioactive waste water of Fukushima nuclear power plant from spring of this year.

The “Science”, a prominent science magazine of the U.S., has recently released an article which provides a scientific evidence of the dangerousness to be incurred in case Japan forcibly discharges the radioactive waste water. This suffices to show that it will bring dire consequences to the ecosystem of its surrounding sea and the safety of humankind.

The “Science” made a full description of the fact that the Japan is planning to release the waste water of Fukushima power plant into the Pacific in defiance of the opposition and that some scientists disagree on the assertion of the Japanese government that it is not hazardous to the ocean and humankind, together with the comments made by many experts on the harmful effect of nuclear waste water.

Experts in low-density radioactive measurement said that they cannot confirm what substances are contained in the processed water and they remain doubtful about the function of the processing facility because Tokyo Electric Power Holding Incorporation only measured limited amount of radionuclide.

It is also the opinion of marine biologists that the accumulated tritium in the undersea life will affect fish and people.

For that reason, the Secretary General of Pacific Islands Forum insisted that the nuclear waste water should not be discharged into the sea until all the countries concerned have confirmed its safety. American oceanology research institute also expressed opposition against the discharging of the nuclear waste water into the sea on the grounds that there is not enough scientific evidence to guarantee its safety.

Not only “Science” but many other previous research papers published in the academic circles have warned the seriousness of the situation by disclosing in detail the negative effects of Japan’s nuclear waste water to mankind.

Voices continue unabated at home and abroad against the one-sided decision adopted by the Japanese government to discharge the nuclear waste water.

Japan should reflect on the concern of the international society rather than pursuing its selfish aim.
