It is warm in April.
From olden times, our people have created and carried forward various customs in line with the seasonal characteristics of April.
The subdivisions in April are the Chongmyong(the tomb-sweeping day) and the Kogu(the grain rain).
The Chongmyong, which falls on about 5th or 6th of April, means the time when the sky gets serene.
On the Chongmyong, our people used to clear off the traces of winter and spread flower seeds in their gardens while planting fruit trees around their houses.
Besides, our people regarded the Chongmyong as the tomb-sweeping day. They used to visit tombs of their ancestors or move them to another places. They used to repair some parts of the tombs which were damaged during the winter and turf them.
The Kogu, which means the rainfall good for grains, falls on about 20th or 21st of April.
People used to take a serious view of the rainfalls on the Kogu.
On the Kogu or thereabouts, as it was an important time affecting a year’s farming, the people used to spend busy days with farming.
April 5th and 20th are the Chongmyong and Kogu for this year.
