The central emergency disaster and crisis response command team in the DPRK is focusing on the work to cope with disastrous abnormal climate caused by El Nino this year.

Emergency disaster and crisis response command teams have been formed at ministries, national agencies, provinces, cities, counties, industrial establishments and other units followed by the establishment of an integrated system whereby the teams work under the unified command of the state.

Fully aware of the importance of their mission in implementing the policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea on thoroughly protecting the lives and safety of people and land from natural disasters, relevant officials dynamically organize and control the work to swiftly respond to unexpected situations and minimize damage while paying constant attention to changing meteorological conditions.

The central command team effectively conducts the work to awaken the masses to have a high sense of crisis and make them exert themselves to take thorough measures to prevent calamities and to transmit climate information in real time in contact with a relevant unit.

Instructions on establishing proper water management systems have been issued, common knowledge and methods of countering crisis introduced in a diversified way and an emergency information system readjusted and reinforced.

Detailed steps have been taken to organize evacuation, carry out an extensive survey to find out all objects prone to disasters and make preparations for rapidly correcting them by concentrating manpower and means.

Close attention is paid to making sure that every unit secures necessary materials and means for mobilization and takes precautionary measures lest there should be any inconvenience in people’s life in case of emergency.

Exact demands are made on the units to make sure that relief and medical squads to be rushed to disaster-stricken areas maintain readiness for action on a constant basis and to conduct the work to prevent damage while strictly complying with anti-epidemic demands in close contact with emergency anti-epidemic institutions.

Efforts are made in earnest to repair irrigation structures, dredge rivers and streams and perfect drainage systems with emphasis put on preventing the inundation and burying of farmland by heavy rain, flood and typhoon and minimizing damage to crops.

Besides, the work is scrupulously organized to establish well-knit direction and information systems in land and environmental protection, urban management, electric power, rail transport and all other sectors and units of the national economy and enhance the responsibility and role of officials so as to rapidly cope with any accidental situation.
