June 5 is the World Environment Day.

The world is now faced with unprecedented challenges and obstacles called destruction of ecosystem caused by the rapid industrial development.

Furthermore, animals’ habitats are destroyed by desertification of forests and pollution of rivers and streams which are accelerated by profit-seeking capitalists. Therefore, animal protection is now presented as a global issue.

In the DPRK, protection of biodiversity and improvement of people’s material and cultural life are considered not only as a simple matter of routine, but as one of the state affairs.

In the Cabinet meeting held on November 20, 1962, President Kim Il Sung emphasized the importance of land administration. He said that protection of useful animals is just as important as forestation and land administration, and further research and development in biology should be conducted in order to increase the numbers of roe, deer and pheasants in mountains. He ensured that the biology faculty in Kim Il Sung University be set up to this end.

President Kim Il Sung always regarded land administration and environmental protection as a noble deed of patriotism, a work for the people. True to his noble will, Chairman Kim Jong Il put his heart and soul to adding more beauty to the country’s landscape and transforming our country, which had been called the golden tapestry of three thousand ri, into a people’s land of bliss.

In April 2012, respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , who embodied the noble idea of love for the country and the people cherished by the great leaders, declared the period from March to July as the time of protecting useful animals, and took measures to actively carry out the all-Party, all-state and all-people work of protecting and proliferating useful animals. At the 5 th Plenary Meeting of the 7 th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, he saw to it that the meeting adopts the decision to breed and set free animals like roes and pheasants in every province and to replenish feed in autumn so as to protect and increase animals.

Also at the first short training course for chief secretaries of the city and county Party committees held in March 2021, respected Comrade Kim Jong Un stressed once again that the provincial, city and county committees should take full responsibility for setting up reserves for useful animals and making feeding grounds so as to increase the numbers of useful animals such as roes and pheasants.

Every grass and tree on this land and even romping useful animals, adding beauty to the mountains, reflect the noble world of patriotism cherished by the great leaders. That is why the tens of million people are burning their hearts with patriotism even at the glimpse of them.

Our country’s landscape will get more beautiful as the land administration and animal protection and proliferation are now being carried out more actively than ever before under the wise leadership of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un .
