It happened in a flood-stricken area in North Hamgyong Province in the autumn of 2016.
The unforeseen natural disaster displaced more than a thousand households overnight in the northern part of North Hamgyong Province.
Foreigners who then visited Hoeryong City met an 11-year-old girl. Her house and possessions were all washed away and her whole family was left homeless.
What surprised more the foreign visitors, however, was that they were unable to see a sign of fear, discouragement or disappointment in her.
They asked the girl how she is going to live and what she wants to become when she grows up.
The girl did not hesitate to reply with confidence that she believes that respected Marshal Kim Jong Un will soon give her a new home, clothes and shoes, and that she would become a soldier defending the country.
Everyone was deeply touched by what she said.
They could not clear up a doubt about the mental prop which gives such a small girl optimism about hope and dream for the future even in the face of a harsh disaster.
They could only find the answer after they witnessed a noble undertaking of love for the people that took place in the northern end of the country.
Saying that there is no revolutionary task more crucial than alleviating the people’s misfortune, respected Comrade Kim Jong Un set building homes as the foremost task in the recovery campaign from damage in the northern part of the country.
He mobilized and focused all manpower, material and technical potentials of the state towards it.
Many construction equipment and materials, food, wallpaper, blankets, school uniforms and stationeries were sent to them across cut-off railway tracks and roads.
And under the benevolent measures taken by the Party, schoolchildren in the disaster-stricken areas were sent on fun camping trips.
These touched the hearts of all those who witnessed them.
The confident reply of the young Hoeryong girl and her hopes for the future are by no means a mere dream.
In no more than 50-odd days, a tremendous change took place.
A socialist fairyland had emerged from the rubbles of a natural disaster.
The mental pillar of the little Hoeryong girl came from the love and benevolence for the people of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who gives top priority to taking full responsibility and care of the people’s lives.
