The women's first-division football tournament is going on as part of the DPRK Championships.
The competition is drawing the attention of experts and fans from the beginning as it is also the third round of the DPRK women's premier league in 2022-2023.
On the threshold of the anniversary of the DPRK (September 9), matches were played between Pyongyang and Ponghwasan teams and between Naegohyang and Ministry of Light Industry teams at Kim Il Sung Stadium in Pyongyang.
The games were won by Pyongyang and Naegohyang teams that are known as strong teams at home.
The Pyongyang scored three goals in the match against the Ponghwasan. It had taken the first place in the second round of the DPRK women's premier league in 2022-2023 and the women's football tournament of the spring national sports festival this year.
The goals were scored respectively by No. 8 Jang Su Yong, No. 27 Kim Un Jong and No. 5 Ri Chun Gyong at the 26th, 41st and 76th minutes.
To cope with the Pyongyang’s powerful attack, the Ponghwasan strengthened person-to-person defence and tried to earn a score mainly with through pass, but failed to the last.
Thus the match ended with the Pyongyang winning 3-0.
The Naegohyang had finished runner-up respectively in the first and second rounds of the DPRK women's premier league in 2022-2023, the women’s football tournament of the spring national sports festival in 2023 and the Hwaeppul Cup football tournament. In the match with the Ministry of Light Industry, it created good chances by breaking through the right side of the opponent’s area by two- or three-person combination while dominating the midfield.
The Ministry of Light Industry tried to get a score by breaking through the flank while pressing the opponent from the midfield.
Its attack was unexpectedly strong, but the Naegohyang steadily mounted attacks without losing the initiative by playing the game with composure. Finally, its No. 33 Kim Un Ju kicked the ball into the net in the 65th minutes.
No more goal was scored in the seesaw match and therefore the Naegohyang beat the ministry team 1-0.
The Naegohyang defeated the Jebi Team 5-0 in the match played on September 11.
