A banquet was held in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People on September 28 to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
President Xi Jinping attended the banquet with senior officials of the Communist Party of China and the state and personages at home and abroad.
President Xi made a keynote speech.
At the present time when the situation is rapidly changing and developing around the world and serious changes are taking place in the international environment, the occurrences unprecedented in the past century, a lot of dangers and challenges are standing in the way of China’s advance, he said.
He stressed the need to quickly establish a new development phase centring on propelling highly qualitative development and put in effort to ensure the people’s livelihood with the main emphasis on satisfying the growing need in their life.
He also mentioned the matters of consolidating and building on the achievements of the drive for alleviating poverty, of promoting the overall rejuvenation of rural villages, of safeguarding international equality and justice and realizing true multilateralism in practice and of creating a beautiful future for humankind by cooperating with peoples of different countries to cope with all kinds of challenges of the world.
On September 30, a ceremony was held to lay a flower basket to people’s heroes at Tiananmen Square in Beijing.
President Xi, senior officials of the party and state and delegates from all walks of life paid a silent tribute to the memory of martyrs who dedicated their lives for the cause of liberating the Chinese people and founding the PRC.
