Pyongyang University of Architecture has a 70-year history.
Though the Korean people won the Fatherland Liberation War in July 1953, they had to reconstruct streets, villages, factories, mines and farm fields which were turned to ashes due to the three-year war.
At that time, the university was founded on October 1 1953.
President Kim Il Sung mapped out a plan to found the university for training competent architect reserves before the gunfire stopped. Shortly after the ceasefire, he chose the site for the university near his office room and saw to it that materials to be used for the construction of university building were sent on a priority basis.
Taking the first step on debris with 27 lecturers and 332 students, the university has now turned into a powerful and prestigious architectural production unit that can design any structure flawlessly, a “pedigree farm” for training competent architects of the country and a hub of architectural science research.
The field guidance of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un on November 26 2013 occupies a pre-eminent position in the rapid development of the university.
While learning in detail about the university work, he clarified important position it takes in the building of a civilized socialist nation and the way ahead, and personally became the honorary president of the university.
Over the past ten years since then, the university has contributed greatly to building monumental structures which would shine forever in national history and left an indelible traces in ushering in a great golden age of construction by training many architectural talents.
