One day in August Juche 48 (1959), President Kim Il Sung attended the inaugural ceremony of the then West Pyongyang Railway Factory.
Going round various places of the factory, the President was very pleased with the fact that another machine-building base was built. And he assigned the task of manufacturing electric locomotive to the working class of the factory.
He encouraged the officials and workers of the factory, saying that if they buckled down with confidence, they could make electric locomotive and even greater ones.
A group of designers, keeping his instruction deep in mind, started the designing.
Learning about their work almost every day, he solved the problems arising in the work and encouraged them to overcome difficulties by their own efforts.
Thanks to his deep trust and wise guidance, the factory succeeded in manufacturing an electric locomotive.
Seeing the electric locomotive made for the first time in the country, he expressed satisfaction with the locomotive finally manufactured by our workers and technicians, saying that self-reliance is the best. And he named the locomotive "Red Flag".
The "Red Flag" electric locomotive was a brilliant outcome of the wise leadership of the President who led them to live and struggle in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance. -0-
