“Thanks to state policies such as the law on social insurance and social security, our employees work two hours less than the working hours of ordinary workers and even receive treatment during that time. In other words, the work time itself consists of exercises and treatment for promoting their health,” said Kim Yong Ran, chairwoman of the Junggu light labour workshop management board.
Then she referred to the benevolence of the state which saw that social security guesthouses and light labour workshops were established for temporarily disabled working people and defined their working hours exceptionally decades ago.
The Junggu light labour workshop management board is situated in Central District, Pyongyang.
At the workshop equipped with clean work space and a lounge, bathroom, nutrition canteen and treatment room, the employees do treatment-oriented work for physical rehabilitation after choosing from a variety of jobs involving repairs and welfare service according to their abilities and wishes.
Kang Myong Jong, worker at the workshop, said that he had been completely shocked when diagnosed with disability, but he regained vitality while working there and felt more keenly that the socialist system was the best. He added that the state offers tremendous benefits for the restoration of the health of disabled people like him.
After work, Kang goes angling to the banks of the Taedong River and spends a good time with his friends. He also enjoys going to pleasure grounds or theatres with his family on Sundays.
He said that they have no difficulty in life because all conditions for their health and convenience are provided under the state benefits.
The state also supplies nutritious meals and tonics to them on a regular basis.
