Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- In Munam-ri of Pujon County, South Hamgyong Province, and Sampho-ri of Yonsa County, North Hamgyong Province of the DPRK, there are the Okryonsan stone river and the 99 meanders of Chonsangsu presenting spectacular views, which are natural monuments of academic significant.
The Okryonsan stone river, the largest of its kind in the country, is made of parts of rocks which moved down the valley from the peak of Mt Okryon, featuring nature's wonder.
The river is about 120 meters wide and about 700 meters long. Its water is invisible and only sound of running water is audible under the stony ground with about 10 degree inclination. The piled stone thickness is 4-5 meters on an average and 15-20 meters in the valley side. The edges of stones were worn out, with irregular shapes and cubes and plates of different sizes.
The 99 meanders of Chonsangsu is a wonderful river on the highest place in the country.
The name of 99 meanders of Chonsangsu is attributable to its location on a high mountain and 99 meanders it has. This stone river is formed by the water meandering through cracks formed in granites.
The length of the river is about 18 km, and about 16 km in a straight distance and its bends are made by the unique texture of granites. The width is 4-18 meters, the depth is 3-10 meters, and the deepest is more than 10 meters.
The river is composed of rocks from the sides to the bottom. In the rainy season, the current flow of water is very fast and sounds loudly, and in the dry season, large and small boulders appear here and there. -0-
