The Tanchon Smeltery has entered the ranks of the top ten enterprises of the country this year.

It raised the grade of electrolytic zinc from 99.97 percent to 99.995 percent in 2021, the first year of the five-year plan for national economic development, thus laying a solid foundation for the production of high-grade metals.

If the purity of a nonferrous metal is increased by just 0.001 percent, it might lead to considerable economic profits.

In that year, the technicians of the smeltery established a reagent production process, which is of prime importance in improving the grade of products, and raised the grade of electrolytic zinc from grade three to one.

“Since we built the reagent production process, we have been actively pushing ahead with an undertaking—it is finding every possibility for normalizing the production and turning them into reality one by one,” said the chief engineer.

A typical example was the development of lead anode plates essential for the electrolysis process.

If lead anode plates are not replaced in time, it causes a decrease in the electrolytic zinc production. Then it becomes impossible to normalize the production on a high level, no matter how high the grade of the product was raised. However, as the demand for the plates grew in various sectors and units of the national economy outstripping the supply from relevant units, the smeltery decided to establish a lead anode plate production process of its own. The technicians developed an alloy material in a fresh and unique way and confirmed technical indexes for setting up the process and introduced them into production.

Like this, the smeltery is pushing several technical research projects for putting production on a normal footing under any conditions and environment, including those for ensuring domestic production of materials and facilities which had to be imported previously and for raising the actual yield by improving technical management.

It also readjusted and reinforced two major production processes by relying on its own technical force and increased their production capacities 1.3 and 2.6 times respectively.

It is directing efforts to supplying raw materials to the production processes, which is crucial for normalizing production.

In collaboration with lead and zinc concentrate production units in the country, it has formed new supply chains for uninterrupted provision of raw materials.

Consequently, the smeltery carried out its yearly national economic plan by the end of last October.

Meanwhile, it has renovated its compound to establish a cultured way of production and life on a higher level.

The production areas, sci-tech learning space, cultural and welfare facilities and relaxation centre have been given facelifts and the compound has turned into a lovely garden with over 70 000 trees of good species, hundreds of thousands of flowering plants and ground-cover plants.
