After the national championships, all-star competitions have become the focus of public attention.

All-star wrestling tournament-2023

The all-star wresting tournament-2023 was held at the Badminton Gymnasium on Chongchun Street in Pyongyang.

Over 100 wrestlers selected from the April 25 combat sports team, Amnokgang Sports Club, Pyongyang Sports Club and other excellent ones took part in the tournament and competed fiercely, divided into the men’s Greco-Roman, and women’ s and men’s freestyle events.

The event attended by the winners of the spring national sports festival and the DPRK national championships in 2023 was fiercer as it was also aimed at selecting players as members of the national team.

Ro Yu Chol from the April 25 combat sports team won the men’s 55kg Greco-Roman category with powerful offensive combined with special skills.

Ri Se Ung showed wonderful scenes in the 60kg event by dint of jerking one arm in the standing wrestling and lifting and throwing in the ground wrestling.

Kim Chan from the Kigwancha Sports Club, who won gold medals in the aforesaid two competitions, fully demonstrated his physical and technical abilities in the 63kg category event, lifting the trophy again.

In the women’s freestyle event, Kim Son Hyang from the sports club of the Ministry of External Economic Relations, who entered the rankings in the 19th Asian Games, Choe Hyo Gyong from the Amnokgang Sports Club and Mun Hyon Gyong from the April 25 combat sports team employed diverse techniques according to circumstances, thereby unfolding wonderful scenes.

Jong In Sun, who showed off her ability in different international games, flexed her muscles in the women’s 57kg category.

Han Chong Song from the April 25 combat sports team, who won a gold medal at the spring national sports festival this year, took the first place in the men’s freestyle 57kg category.

Kim Kwang Jin from the April 25 combat sports team, who was placed third in the 19th Asian Games, cut a conspicuous figure in the men’s 65kg category. He left a deep impression on experts and fans by playing the game technically and tactically and with composure in line with its ever-changing situation.

Kim Sang Dok from the Pyongyang Sports Club took the first place in the men’s 74kg category. He won the men’s freestyle 74kg category in the spring national sports festival in 2023 and came third in the men’s freestyle 79kg category in the national championships. He drew the attention of the spectators by pitching a dynamic game at the all-star tournament.

Experts commented that the three-day all-star tournament served as an important occasion for raising the ability of top players.

The tournament was very fierce from the beginning as it was a singles competition between competent aces.

In the men’s event, Kim I Chon from the Amnokgang Sports Club clinched victory by defeating all his opponents with powerful smash, drop shot in left and right open spaces and proactive offensive.

Spectacular scenes were unfolded one after another in the women’s event.

The seasaw battle, which was staged with a margin of one or two scores for the players’ similar ability, made fans grip their hands and each scoring showed the intensity of games.

In the women’s event, Kim Jin Hyang from the defence sports club of the Ministry of National Defence came first by playing the game to the last with the help of correct receive based on swift movement and strong perseverance.

Choe Kyong Ryong from the defence sports club of the Ministry of National Defence and Han Un Byol from the Amnokgang Sports Club unfolded fine scenes with horizontal push, hairpin shot and consecutive blows.
