Recently, the Japanese authorities paid compensation to an organization that was harmed by the release of nuclear contaminated water into the ocean. If one thinks that these environmental scoundrels have belatedly acknowledged the catastrophic aftereffects of their oceanic discharge debacle and changed their tune, one is sorely mistaken.
The Japanese authorities paid compensation to their own fisheries-related entities.
After the release of contaminated water, many countries, including those along the Pacific coast, imposed strict bans on imports of Japanese fishery products. The Japanese fishing industry, which was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the authorities’ response, was so cornered that it attempted to round up the relevant organizations with some money.
That lame makeshift may work in their own country.
But how many hundreds of shakes of the wallet can hold off the protests and condemnations of the international community?
To be clear, it is not the Japanese fishing industry that will really suffer from the release of nuclear contaminated water, but all mankind, who share the oceans and must survive forever with them.
Japan’s disgraceful act of polluting the oceans, the common property of mankind, with nuclear filth in pursuit of its own selfish goals has provoked universal finger-pointing and outrage.
The bans on imports of Japanese marine products imposed by various countries reflect this atmosphere.
For the Japanese government, this is self-inflicted.
If the Japanese authorities really want to save their own fishing industry, they must stop the nuclear water release fiasco now.
But they are so eager to throw coins around that they are turning their backs on what they need to do, which is as stupid and foolish as covering one’s ears and stealing a bell. (End)
