A spokesman for the Chinese national health commission referred to the prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases in winter on December 2.
He said the national health commission keeps conducting the monitoring and analysis of situation for respiratory diseases in winter, together with the national management bureau of Chinese medicines and the national disease prevention control centre. Noting that the acute respiratory diseases which are prevalent at present are caused by already-known pathogens, he said that they have relevant treatment means and that no new epidemic caused by any new virus or germ has been discovered.
Medical institutions at all levels should accommodate the convenience for all the people who come for medical treatment by strengthening outpatient paediatric treatment, prolonging the treatment service time based on the number of cases, increasing the number of stationary beds and steadily optimizing the course of reception, test and cost payment, he noted.
They should increase the effects of preventive treatment by disseminating the knowledge related to respiratory diseases which often occur in winter and lower the incidence risk by doing well the supply of flu vaccines and inoculation service and giving old persons and children vaccines rapidly, he stated.
Saying that it is very effective in preventing the spread of respiratory diseases to wear masks, frequently wash hands and change the air, he stressed the need to do well individual care, make those who are ill remain at home and maintain good individual hygienic practice and a sound way of life.
