December 10 is Day of Human Rights.

The third UN General Assembly session on December 10 1948 adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with a view to preventing human rights abuses worldwide. The UN General Assembly held in 1950 designated December 10 as "Day of Human Rights".

With a preface and 30 articles, the declaration highlights the significance and importance of the provision of fundamental human rights and freedom in ensuring global peace and security and contains general definitions of the independent rights and standards that man should enjoy in all fields of social life.

Over the past 75 years since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, international moves for the protection of human rights have been encouraged, whereas the human rights issue still raises complicated political problems in the international arena.

The problem is the human rights issue is being abused as a tool for fulfilling the political purposes of some Western countries including the US.

The US and Western nations make every attempt to brand individual countries that are not to their liking as "human rights abusers" and "unethical criminal states", recklessly finding fault with the human rights situations in those countries.

In particular, the US issues country reports on human rights of different countries every year as if it were a “judge”, slandering the human rights situations in other countries and imposing unreasonable sanctions on them.

The US, the UK and other countries criticized the human rights situation in China again at the recent meeting of the Third Committee of the 78th UN General Assembly.

In this regard, the permanent representative of China to the UN denounced a small number of countries including the US and Britain for having incited confrontation against China and groundlessly slandered it again by using the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly without breaking themselves of their bad habit.

The looks of the US, styling itself a "judge" in the international arena, from the back are very ugly.

It has perpetrated cruel, inhuman and systematic tortures on prisoners every day at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp over the past 20 years.

Human rights experts bitterly condemned the US, saying it threw innocent people in the prison and inflicted torture and maltreatment on them at will without trial in gross violation of international law, and this is a great blot on the US.

This year the information office of the State Council of China released the "2022 report on human rights abuses in the US" disclosing the serious human rights situation in the US.

The seven-part report showed with lots of examples and detailed and convincing data the poor human rights situation prevailing in the US, revealing that the principal rights and freedom of Americans have been further violated.

Cuban President Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez at a press conference on October 16 demanded the US be put in the dock as it systematically violates human rights in the world.

Reality proves that the US styling itself the "human rights champion" is the world's worst human rights abuser and the "human rights" rhetoric touted by the American rulers in the international arena is nothing but a hypocrisy to cover up its crimes against humanity.

The US and the West are talking much about the human rights situations in other countries in the international arena, which is aimed at putting pressure on independent sovereign states that are opposed to their high-handed and arbitrary practices and interfering in their internal affairs to bring down their social systems.

Human rights precisely mean national sovereignty. It is clearly proved by the situations in several countries which had turned into the theatre of war and suffered all sorts of misfortune due to the imperialists' aggression that human rights cannot be protected if national sovereignty is violated.

Human rights can never be an instrument for implementing the hegemony-seeking policy of a particular state.

The international community should awaken to the fact that the issue of promoting the sacred human rights is being misused by some countries for their political plots and pay attention to opposing such negative practices.
