The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) released a detailed report on the fact that the Hwangju-Kindung Waterway, another revolutionary entity in implementing the programme for the rural revolution in the new era, was completed as a monumental edifice in the era of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

According to the report, hundreds of ris of the gravity-fed Hwangju-Kindung Waterway was built in North Hwanghae Province, as planned and intended by the WPK which set the completion of irrigation system as a crucial state affair for the rural development. As a result, the vast fields of Hwangju and Yonthan counties, breadbaskets of the country, have turned into fertile land to be fully irrigated and rich land capable of producing stable yield despite abnormal weather.

The waterway is a brilliant outcome of the wise leadership of the great Party Central Committee which ushers in a new era of the Korean-style development of rural areas under a grandiose plan and by dint of great executive ability, and proud creation by the ardent loyalty and strenuous fighting spirit of the builders who have embodied the spirit of devotedly implementing the Party’s policies, the detailed report said, and went on:

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, who is always paying deep attention to the development of the country’s agriculture, set forth the important tasks for further rounding off the irrigation of agriculture to lay the foundation for agricultural production free from crop failure, and set a goal of irrigation construction for its realization at important meetings of the Party and the state.

The officers and members of the waterway construction division, keeping in their hearts the deep trust of the Party Central Committee, launched the project with the blasting of 100 000 cubic meters of earth on June 2, 2020, out of the strong mind to create another eternal wealth for national prosperity.

The project, the sixth of its kind in the national history of large-scale gravity-fed waterway construction, was a grand nature-remaking project for building a waterway extending hundreds of ris, which required excavation and disposal of more than 4 million cubic meters of rock and earth, concrete tamping of more than 110 000 cubic meters for building 20 waterway tunnels, 500-odd structures and irrigation diving pipes.

The days of building the waterway witnessed continued vigorous advance for laying a solid foundation for the development of agriculture, braving the challenges of nature with the spirit of unyielding and stubborn offensive.

Thanks to the self-reliance and fortitude spirit and creativity of builders, new construction methods were invented and introduced, speeding up the construction and ensuring its quality.

The waterway builders displayed their indomitable fighting spirit to the full in May last year when the state anti-epidemic work converted into the maximum emergency anti-epidemic system to cope with the sudden anti-epidemic crisis.

The advance spirit of the waterway builders to uphold the Party’s strategy for rural development and policy for irrigation construction with practical successes grew stronger in this year’s drive for providing a decisive guarantee for the fulfillment of the Five-Year Plan.

Amid the dynamic nation-wide campaign for innovation to attain this year’s irrigation construction goal such as the completion of the dry-field irrigation system set forth by the 7th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Party Central Committee, the waterway construction division pushed forward with the construction in a big way by applying the three-dimensional and finish-one-by-one methods, properly setting the order of priority and concentrating power on the key object to complete the construction in the shortest possible time.

They thus completed the large-scale gravity-fed waterway project two years earlier and reported to the Party on its completion.
