The Munsu Rehabilitation Clinic is manufacturing prostheses for the treatment of patients.
Cha Myong Il, head of the Medical Facilities Department, and his staff studied for years the advanced methods of manufacturing prostheses and the literature on human anatomy and other clinical fields. On the basis of this, they satisfactorily resolved the problems arising in designing structure and choosing materials that can restore the activity functions lost in different parts of the body and satisfy the engineering demands of correcting deformation and recovering from dysfunction.
They succeeded in developing over 20 kinds of devices, including those for correcting the cervical vertebrae, lateroversion, ankle joint, lumbar, wrist joint and knuckle joint.
These devices are characterized by the fact that they are manufactured on the principle of meeting demands of the individual patients with different physical features and deformations.
Kim Sol Mi, who is aged 21 and living in Hyongjesan District, Pyongyang, had her vertebra very deformed after getting a contusion when she was young. After wearing for two years a device manufactured by the clinic, she found that her back got straightened beyond her recognition.
Kim Ye Jin, who is aged 12 and living in Pothonggang District, Pyongyang, got her ankle joint hurt one month ago while doing exercise. Her school teachers and neighbours thought that she must stay in hospital with the joint bandaged with plaster for several months. She was admitted, together with her mother, to the Munsu Rehabilitation Clinic and recovered from the injury earlier with the help of a device that closely fitted her ankle joint.
The devices manufactured by the clinic prove helpful to treating also those who live experiencing mental agony for their physical disabilities.
