The patriotic enthusiasm of the Korean people is bubbling up from the beginning of the New Year.

The Kim Yu Bong Youth Shock Brigade of the February 8 Jiktong Youth Coal Mine of the Sunchon Area Youth Coal-mining Complex carried out its tunnelling plan at 140 percent on January 2 by waging the movements of doing one more blasting and helping the next shift and the youth shock brigades of the coal mining sectors of South Phyongan and Kangwon provinces overfulfilled their daily tunnelling plans from the beginning of the year.

Amid the heightened zeal of young people for volunteering to work at difficult and labour-consuming sectors, over 6 000 young men and women across the country volunteered for major fronts of socialist construction, including factories of the metallurgical industry sector, farms and coal mines, in January alone.

“The admirable deeds of passionate youths responding to the call of the country with their burning hearts show well the spiritual world of the successors who are growing as masters who will shoulder the future of a  powerful country,” said Pak Myong Jin, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League.

Trade union organizations have also enhanced their role in the efforts to bring about collective innovation through the socialist patriotic movements, the revolutionary mass movements.

Positive assistance was rendered to the countryside by the TU organizations of Pyongyang Municipality, including the Moranbong district trade union committee which sent 390 tons of organic fertilizer to farms on January 4. The South Hwanghae provincial trade union committee sent 6 700 tons of organic fertilizer to farms from January 1 to 3.

Women’s union members in Pyongyang went to the construction sites of dwelling houses with patriotic fervour to encourage builders while working hard with them and conducting frontline-style motivational activities. They also presented coal mines with the tools and supplies for labour protection they had prepared with sincerity.

Many women across the country are voluntarily doing good things for the country as they subordinate their family affairs to the state affairs.

Many participants in the Fifth National Conference of Mothers performed lots of laudable patriotic deeds. They produced large quantities of good-quality manure with their children to send it to farm fields, donated a large sum of money they saved in their families for boosting the country’s defence capabilities and sent aid materials reflecting their sincerity to grand construction sites.

In particular, the participants in the conference from Kapsan County volunteered to work on farms in the county with the determination to contribute to filling the country's granary.

“Women’s patriotic deeds are a manifestation of the noble outlook on life of them who steadily follow the road of patriotism with the conviction that the happiness and bright future of their families and offspring hinge on firmly believing in and following only the Workers’ Party of Korea with single-hearted devotion,” said Son Myong Ae, vice-chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Women's Union of Korea.

The Korean people believe that everyone can and must perform patriotic deeds.
