Pyongyang, April 3 (KCNA) -- Lots of important measures for educational development have been taken in the DPRK by the Party and the state in the new century of Juche, under the wise guidance of the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un who regards the educational work as the top-priority state affair.
A law on enforcing the universal 12-year compulsory education was promulgated at the Sixth Session of the Twelfth Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK in September Juche 101 (2012).
The General Secretary set 2017 marking the 40th publication anniversary of President Kim Il Sung 's celebrated work "Theses on Socialist Education" and 2018 as years of science and education and gave instructions on stepping up the work to improve the conditions and environment for education on several occasions.
Thanks to the intention of the Workers' Party of Korea to turn the country's education into one that can shoulder the future of the country, a nationwide and social assistance campaign has been further intensified to improve the educational conditions and environment.
The General Secretary, in his work to the participants in the 13th National Conference of Educational Workers, put forward the slogan "Let us make ours a country of education and a talent power by bringing about a radical improvement in education in the new century!" and indicated the tasks and ways for developing education.
After the promulgation of the law on enforcing the universal 12-year compulsory education, more than 1 500 schools were built or rebuilt on an extension basis across the country and a large number of classrooms turned into multi-functional ones within several years.
In 2023, steps were taken to modify the country's educational structure so that it can give advanced education and to improve the educational work, under the determination and will of the WPK to put the country's education on a world level.
The adoption of the law on supporting education is one of the positive measures taken to realize the noble intention of the Party that is to put the country's education on a world level as early as possible by making all the people turn out in the work of supporting education, regarding it as a sacred civic duty.
Such major steps for educational development taken at important meetings deciding on the Party and state policies served as a practical guarantee for bringing about a radical improvement in education. -0-
