Among the nominated best inventors of the country in 2023 is a scientist in his thirties.

He is Kim Hyok, director of the health improvement technology development company under Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences.

As he grew under the influence of his parents, both medical workers, he hoped to become a doctor from his childhood, he said.

After being enrolled at Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences, a “pedigree farm” for training medical science and technology personnel, Kim Hyok joined scientific research activities actively while studying hard.

During his university years he came up with two inventions including the “system of diagnosing diseases with painful points” to distinguish himself as a student inventor and in the postgraduate school years he designed four valuable inventions to attract attention of the academic circles.

Later, as he worked as a researcher at a research institute under the university, he scientifically revealed the pharmacological effect of selenium, an essential microelement in the human body, and developed medicines to which selenium is applied. He also invented the air anion-generating device and brain-activating glasses which are helpful in improving sports players’ adaptability to matches and combatting physical fatigue.

In recent years alone, he has invented an automatic diopsimeter, an advanced medical optical examination facility, and researched and developed modern medical instruments and highly efficacious medicines one after another, including the eye electrophysiological examination instrument, an essential diagnosing facility in the field of ophthalmology, portable blood purifier and composite for the treatment of arthritis.

His thinking and quest for knowledge are not limited to the realm of public health.

Kim has also come up with significant inventions for solving scientific and technological problems arising in major construction projects, contributing to completing the projects at a high qualitative level.

Regarding every element and detail of life as media for creation, Kim continues to come up with new valuable ideas. Whenever people ask him about the secret of successive inventions, he answers that they are not the products of logical thinking or a good brain and that bold ideas also come from a high sense of patriotism.

In recognition of the tireless efforts of him who has achieved notable successes in his research which are of great practical significance with creative thinking and outstanding practical ability, the country conferred on him Kim Jong Il Youth Honour Prize and a doctorate.
