President Kim Il Sung (April 15, 1912–July 8, 1994) sincerely helped to solve urgent problems arising in the building of an independent national economy and development of advanced national culture in the countries which embarked on the road of building a new society after achieving national independence.
In May 1972, the Sri Lankan people, after proclaiming their Republic by smashing the obstructive moves of the imperialists and reactionaries at home, waged a vigorous struggle to create a new life. But the situation in their country was still difficult.
The Premier of the country decided to send his son, advisor to the government economic planning department, to President Kim Il Sung for help.
His son met the President and informed him of his country’s difficulties and his father’s ask for help.
Noting that the Premier’s request is an expression of great expectation of the DPRK, Kim Il Sung said in the following vein: We will help you with sincerity. We can assist you to build an irrigation system as you fail to farm well for lack of water. We will send you irrigation technicians and pumping equipment if you wish.
And he kindly added that he would also send them tractors and tractor-drawn farm machines to be used for farming.
Deeply moved by his benevolence of solving all the problems they had never thought of, the Premier’s son expressed his gratitude, saying the President solved the knottiest problem in consideration of their hardships, and that their agriculture would develop afresh thanks to his selfless help.
Voices of respect and gratitude for Kim Il Sung resounded far and wide around the world as he helped the developing countries in building a new society materially and morally and saved them from centuries-old backwardness and poverty.
The President of Somalia, in the opening ceremony of a waterway in an area of his country, said that if they had not learned the agricultural techniques and experience from the Korean brothers, they would have become sleepers on the ruins and suffered hunger and poverty.
The peoples in Asia, Africa and Latin America, who enjoyed the genuine joy of creating a new life thanks to the selfless support of Kim Il Sung , still praise him as the “benevolent father of all people” and an “outstanding leader of the human cause of independence.”
