Pak Un Gyong, teacher at Kaeson Senior Middle School in Moranbong District, Pyongyang, is recognized as one of the most competent teachers of literature in the secondary education sector.
The 43-year-old woman has taught literature at the school for more than 20 years.
She is a poet as well as a teacher.
As she taught students literature, she helped them complete the collections of 600 pieces of literary works.
Born into a worker’s family, she cultivated her talent at the literary hobby group of the Pyongyang Students and Children’s Palace as she wished.
She further enhanced her literary attainments as she studied literature in the Korean language faculty of Kim Chol Ju University of Education. During her university days, she wrote child poem “Who is prettier?” reflecting the happy looks of children across the country who were growing up joyfully while receiving new school uniforms and school things every year. Her work was highly rated at a national mass literary work prize contest.
This marked the beginning of her literary career as a poet and a writer of children’s literature.
Her works full of real-life experience and emotion, positive attitude toward beautiful reality and life and passionate poetic feelings and words were welcomed by the literary circles.
After graduation, she became a literature teacher at Kaeson Senior Middle School in Moranbong District and refined her poetic skills. The young talented model teacher trained many reserve writers.
She takes special pride in helping students expand their creative horizons in real life and offering guidance over their works.
She frequently goes out with them to experience the real life.
“It is because the reality is a good soil into which a fine literary work should take root,” she said.
The poem “Sea of flowers” written under her guidance left a deep impression on readers.
It gives a lifelike and vivid literary description of the aspects of the opening day of a new school year when a sea of flowers is unfolded throughout the country as students in new uniforms with Jindallae (azalea)-brand on them go to school holding Haebaragi (sunflower) school things.
On the other hand, the poem “Treasure box” shows that collecting idle materials is the first step of patriotism and the poem “Goldfish with three tails” represents the joy of moving into a new flat in Hwasong Street.
“Poem is a product of passion. The burning passion of a poet spurs me to discharge my duty as a teacher of literature,” Pak said.
