The Obesity & Hyperlipemia Committee of the Hospitals Association of Korea founded on December 5, Juche 88 (1999) works to help improve the quality of human life and promote their health and longevity through the research, exchange and training in the field of obesity and hyperlipemia.
Over the past years, the committee has conducted a comprehensive epidemiological survey on the prevalence and risk factors of obesity and metabolic syndrome across the country according to age, sex, occupation and region and on genes highly correlated with obesity development. And it has also contributed to improving obesity management nationwide with the help of software and online solution.
Among its research feats and clinical experience are a food frequency questionnaire that serves as a means to survey nutrition of the locals, and Koryo medicines, edible fibre products and other health foods for the treatment of obesity.
It has sponsored more than 20 symposiums to share its achievements in the prevention and treatment of obesity and hyperlipemia, and played its part in training many therapists and enhancing their capabilities.
In addition to prevention efforts, it provides a comprehensive, convenient and specialized treatment and educational environment to all with obesity-related complications, and gives wide publicity to them through TV and other media.
“We will make a positive contribution to public health by consolidating the successes in the prevention, research and education of obesity and hyperlipemia, particularly pediatric obesity, and working with foreign counterparts to this end,” says Sin Pong Chol, chairman of the Obesity & Hyperlipemia Committee of the Hospitals Association of Korea.
