The Biomedical Engineering Faculty of Kim Chaek University of Technology has developed a miniaturized electrochemical biosensor.
This sensor is a latest analytical device which can be used for the quantitative analysis of different microorganisms or biochemical molecules by monitoring their slight electrochemical movements. It adopts a mixture of cutting-edge science and technology in the fields of bioengineering, nanoengineering and information engineering, such as electrode design and fabrication technology, biometric technology, and high-sensitive microsignal measurement technology.
The nanocomposite modified electrode material the research team applied to the electrochemical biosensor is environment-friendly as it is made in a biologically composing method.
The research team also manufactured and applied a highly sensitive portable voltammetric device and impedance spectrometer that can measure electrochemical microsignal changes, thus making it possible to carry out real-time data transfer and control with mobile communication equipment including smartphones and portable and tablet PCs.
Kim Kwang Il, section chief of the faculty, said the portable electrochemical biosensor is very effective in identifying infection by a pathogenic bacteria or virus as it helps detect and quantify it quickly and accurately.
