On June 1, 1984, the family of Frank-Peter Schroeder of German Democratic Republic (GDR) had great felicity.
President Kim Il Sung who was on his goodwill visit to the GDR at that time looked around the major streets in Berlin and came by the house of Frank-Peter Schroeder in Marzan who worked in a tool manufacture factory.
President Kim Il Sung was to inquire into the living conditions of Schroeder’s family with many children.
The householder was buoyant with expectations that he would host the head of a state in an ordinary worker’s family. No wonder that he was so excited, because not anyone could earn such good fortune.
Frank-Peter Schroeder and his family presented a fragrant bouquet to President Kim Il Sung and courteously greeted him.
President Kim Il Sung was guided by Schroeder and his wife into the rooms and sat together with them.
He asked with parental affection about the size of the family, the workplace, the prospects of the children, the benefits and subsidies granted by the state, and other things like the father cares about his children.
When President Kim Il Sung learned that they had triplets, he told the couple to come to Korea and enjoy their time during school vacation after the triplets grow up and go to school.
He also told them to bring up their triplets to become talents who will shoulder the future.
He had a photo session with Schroeder’s family in a homely atmosphere.
Then he gave the triplets the same gift as given to the triplets born in Korea, wishing the family happiness.
Schroeder’s family could not refrain from strong emotion after having met President Kim Il Sung and received great love and honor.
Therefore, Frank-Peter Schroeder, recalling the glorious day when President Kim Il Sung visited his house, wrote in his memoirs as follows:
President Kim Il Sung is such a great man who regarded children as kings and queens of the country and provided children with magnificent school children’s palaces and halls.
He made sure that wonderful nurseries and kindergartens be built in the sunny places.
He said that the happiest time was when he was with children.
He said the birth of many triplets in Korea is a good omen for national prosperity.
He so much loved human beings, the most valuable beings in the world.
