DPRK weightlifters won 38 medals including 21 golds atthe 2024 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup held inThailand.
Ri Chong Song, Won Hyon Sim, Kang Hyon Gyong and RimUn Sim bagged three gold medals respectively by taking first place in snatch,jerk and total of the men’s 81kg category and the women’s 45kg, 55kg and 64kgcategories.
Pang UnChol, Ri Won Ju, Ri Song Gum and Jong Chun Hui earned gold medals in jerk andtotal of the men’s 55kg and 67kg categories and the women’s 49kg and 76kgcategories respectively and Kim Il Gyong received a gold medal in snatch of thewomen’s 59kg category.
Won Hyon Sim bettered world records by lifting 87kgin snatch (new world record), 109kg in jerk (new world record) and 196kg intotal (new world record), and Kang Hyon Gyong lifted 131kg in jerk and 234kg intotal, Ri Won Ju jerked 189kg and Ri Song Gum lifted 221kg in total, betteringworld records respectively.
DPRK womenweightlifters topped the country and regional medal tallies to lift the women’steam trophy and Ri Song Gum received the best player award.
And Kim Yong Ju finished runner-up in snatch, jerk andtotal of the women’s 87kg category.
