Pyongyang, June 12 (KCNA) -- The Korean Central News Agency Tuesday released a report on the fact that the irrigation project goal for this year was attained ahead of schedule and a solid guarantee was provided to perfect the overall irrigation system. According to the report, this year's plan for irrigation of paddy and non-paddy fields was carried out ahead of schedule and the projects for improving rivers, repairing embankments and perpetuating tide-water control dykes were mainly completed in the course of the vigorous struggle for implementing the decisions of the Workers' Party of Korea, thus opening up a sure prospect for perfecting the overall irrigation system and achieving stable and sustainable agricultural development. Officials, working people and service personnel across the country completed the irrigation projects for more than 236,000 hectares of paddy and non-paddy fields, including the construction of at least 4,000 water pumping stations, laying pipes on the area spanning 3,500-odd kilometers, construction of 7,500-odd groundwater facilities, construction of 2 100-odd irrigation facilities and their capacity expansion and the construction and repair of 16,700-odd kilometers of waterways, on the basis of last year's successes and experience. In particular, irrigation facilities were updated and various irrigation methods were applied to at least 60,000 hectares of non-paddy fields with the main stress on the areas damaged by drought just like last year, thus providing a guarantee for safe yield in relevant areas under abnormal weather including drought and high temperature. The WPK, which set the completion of the overall irrigation system as a primary task in ensuring the stable development of agriculture, advanced the goal of irrigation construction for the period to 2025 at the Fourth Plenary Meeting of its Eighth Central Committee and has pushed ahead with the work to attain the goal through a grand nature-remaking project in a bold way. The wise guidance of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, who took all measures for the readjustment and reinforcement of the irrigation system and energetically led the work to powerfully accelerate it involving the whole Party, was the driving force that made it possible to perform fresh miracles and feats in the irrigation construction of the country this year, too, as the same as last year. The struggle to attain the goal of irrigation construction ahead of schedule under the slogan "Unite with Patriotism!" was launched on farm fields across the country. After working out innovative project plan, the central irrigation construction control team has carried on vigorous operations and guidance while giving priority to the production of equipment and supply of materials and strictly reviewing the work to implement the construction plan and taking necessary measures. A nationwide demonstration lecture on dry-field irrigation was conducted in Unchon County and similar lectures were substantially organized in all provinces. Officials and working people stepped up major projects in the spirit of self-reliance with indomitable will. An irrigation project was accelerated in South Hwanghae Province. Thanks to the efforts of officials and working people involved in the project for using water of Lake Kangryong, 800 cubic meters of earth were removed on a daily average. The province finished the project for repairing 30-odd kilometers of waterway and building 20-odd open channels and structures while giving priority to securing aggregate necessary for the expansion of the Ryongmaedo Waterway. North Phyongan Province pushed ahead with the project for expanding the waterway of the Woldo Tideland through the army-civilian coordinated operation. More than 1,400 cubic meters of concrete tamping was completed in ten days amid the mounting enthusiasm for socialist emulation among construction units. And the construction of waterways extending tens of kms and 30-odd structures was finished. Nampho Municipality made progress in major projects by concentrating efforts and means on them. It organized a powerful construction force for the pipe-burying project of the Ryonggang arterial waterway. It finished the removal of more than 1,000 cubic meters of earth, the cofferdam project and the dismantlement of buried pipes in a short span of time by raising the operation rate of construction equipment, and shortened the period of manufacture of iron pipes by tens of days. A project to expand the capacity of the West Sea Barrage-South Phyongan Provincial inland waterway was completed earlier before farming season. The construction of pumping stations and the laying of pipes for dry-field irrigation was accelerated in different parts of the country and the construction of underground water facilities and waterways was hastened on a full scale. Thanks to the devoted efforts of officials and working people, the irrigation project for at least 236,000 hectares of paddy and non-paddy fields was successfully completed till early May to ensure safer farming. Irrigation builders across the country are now pushing ahead with the improvement of 1,400 kilometers of rivers, the repair of 1,800 kilometers of embankments and the construction of anti-tidal dykes extending scores of kilometers at the final stage. A joint innovation was made in the work to supply sufficient equipment and materials needed for this year's irrigation project, too. The Cabinet, the State Planning Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank, the Ministry of Machine-Building Industry, the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry, the Ministry of Construction and Building-Materials Industry, the Ministry of Electric Power Industry and other relevant sectors and units have fulfilled their responsibility and role to preferentially supply materials and equipment needed for irrigation project in time. Many officials and working people have conducted brisk shock-brigade and agitation campaigns while giving material assistance and paying sincere efforts to the irrigation construction. The report stressed that the attainment of the goal for irrigation of hundreds of thousands of hectares of paddy and non-paddy fields, recorded again in the history of socialist rural construction on the threshold of the Tenth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Party Central Committee, is a miraculous result achieved under the wise leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who has worked heart and soul to realize the communist ideal earlier through rural development.
