Kim Tok Hun, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, vice-president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the Cabinet, inspected the agricultural sector in North Hwanghae Province.
Going round Hwangju, Yonthan, Sohung and Singye counties and other areas of the province, he met officials and working people in the agricultural sector who are directing all efforts to farming with a single mind to uphold the decisions of the plenary meeting of the Party Central Committee with increased grain production, and learned in detail about farming.
He called for properly setting the harvest time in each area in consideration of the ripening rate and weather conditions in conformity with the harvest period of such earlier crops as wheat and barley and for concentrating manpower and means on harvesting crops in time and without any waste and drying and storing grains well.
He also called for having a good knowledge of growth situation of paddy rice according to its varieties and fields, putting the cultivation including irrigation and application of nutrient solutions on a scientific and technological basis and positively introducing advanced farming methods and techniques capable of ensuring a high and stable yield even under the influence of the disastrous abnormal weather.
He called on agricultural guidance organs to work out detailed plans for increasing the production of wheat and barley next year on the basis of successes, experience and lessons obtained in earlier crop farming this year and properly carry them out from now on and, in particular, to properly introduce high-yielding varieties.
He also stressed the importance for the agricultural sector to push ahead with the work to raise the proportion of mechanization in keeping with the increase in crop production area, step by step and in a planned way, and arouse the enthusiasm of agricultural workers for production and innovate management in a methodological way by taking into account the actual conditions in the relevant areas and units.
