The Pyongyang Condiments Factory is called a factory covered with green foliage.
Rows of zelkova trees, lawns and different species of trees and flowering shrubs unfold beautiful scenery like a holiday camp. All the places are covered with flowers, trees and ground-cover plants, except buildings and pavements, and the green area of the factory covers over 11 000 square metres.
In addition, the fragrance of such fruit trees as apricot and peach trees waft in the factory according to the season to turn it into a fruit garden.
The landscaping in the factory involves every employee.
There is a plate at each tree, flowering shrub and lawn section which is inscribed with a botanical name, biological characteristics, use and simple cultivation knowledge of a plant at the front and the date of planting and the name of a person in charge at the back.
According to Kim Ran Hui, keeper of the factory’s greenhouse, all the employees devote sincerity to the plants in their charge.
"I tend the trees I planted at my leisure time. I get more attached to my workplace whenever I see young trees grow healthily and beautiful flowers appear in shrubs,” said Kim Yong Gum, an employee.
