Located on the western Mediterranean coast of Asia, Syria has been the hub of ancient Eastern and Western cultural exchanges since ancient times.
There are many streets and squares named after persons in Damascus, the capital of the country. It is related to the history of the country.
Syria, which had constantly been invaded by foreign forces in the past, produced many martyrs who devoted themselves to the struggle for defending the country. Its people named streets and squares after their names to remember them for ever.
Still today, the Syrian people are waging a struggle against foreign invasion.
The stand of the Syrian government and people remains unchanged to advance along the road of independence against imperialism as hostile forces intensify manoeuvres.
Over the past years, political instability was created and millions of the Syrian residents were reduced to refugees due to the US military occupation of its territories.
To cope with this, the Syrian government set it as its top priority task to put an end to the illegal military presence of foreign forces in its territory and has struggled to liberate the areas occupied by the US and other forces.
And it takes positive measures to restore the destroyed infrastructures of the socio-economic fields and stabilize the living of residents.
Syria is channelling efforts into building up its power generating capacity based on renewable energy to ease a strain on electricity. Its government worked out a strategy to sharply increase power generation capacity based on solar and wind energy by 2030 and has pushed ahead with it.
While maintaining the independent stand against imperialism externally, the country opposes the moves of the US and its followers, especially Israel’s attempt to invade the Middle East and expand its sphere of domination, and strengthen unity and cooperation with Arab countries.
Under the circumstances, Syria regained its status as a member of the League of Arab States, which it had lost for 12 years, last year and resumed the relationship with Saudi Arabia which had been severed since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis. Foreign media reported that it is a fatal blow to the US which tried to overthrow the legitimate government of Syria.
The struggle of the Syrian government and people for defending the sovereignty of the country and territorial integrity wins full support and encouragement by the international community.
The DPRK established diplomatic relations with the Syrian Arab Republic on July 25 1966.
