One-legged ssirum is a contestof physical strength.
There are two methods of playingthe game: one to throw down your opponent using both hands and body and other oneusing only the body.
By the former method, youhave to lift one leg and hop to throw down your opponent.
Youcannot use the lifted leg but your hands at will.
Youwin if you make the opponent fall down or make his lifted leg touch theground by using clever tricks.
Bythe latter method, you have to put your hands on your waist and push the opponentwith shoulders. So, it is also called “shoulder fight”.
Childrenhit against each otherwith their bodies or shoulders to push opponents away or aside.
Youlose the game if you touch the ground with the lifted leg or fall down or use your handsin confusion.
Besides,one-legged ssirum can be played as a team game in a circle.
Children are divided intotwo teams to play the game by drawing a circle which is 5 to 7 metres indiameter on a flat ground or sandy beach.
This time, too, you haveto lift a leg and throw down your opponents or push them out of the circle.
Those who fall down or pushedout of the circle are “dead”.
Ifall the members of a team are “dead”, the game is over and the other team with“survivors” wins.
Duringthe game, you can neither change your support leg nor rest on two legs.
This game helps children strengthentheir legs and shoulders, boost their balancing ability and acquire goodcircumstantial judgment.
