In the center of Pyongyang, the capital city of our country, there is Kim Il Sung Square shining with the august name of President Kim Il Sung.

It is a meaningful place that conveys to the whole world the truth that our state is strong and our people are heroic as we hold the great leader in high esteem.

After liberation, our people called the biggest square in Pyongyang Kim Il Sung Square with boundless respect and reverence for the President, the peerless patriot and national liberator. When a special decision about the plan to rename the central streets, parks and squares of Pyongyang was made public in July, Juche 35(1946), our people grew higher in their zeal to call the central square of the capital city Kim Il Sung Square.

Here, the endless ecstasy and excitement of people across the country celebrating the birth of our Republic brimmed over and the national emblem and flag, the symbols of our state, were kept deep in the people’s hearts.

Here on August 15, Juche 42(1953), a military parade took place filled with the pride of having defeated the US imperialists boasting of the "strongest" in the world and having become a heroic country.

On August 12 seventy years ago, Kim Il Sung Square was opened to traffic with a grand ceremony amid the people’s soaring gratitude to and admiration for the President who defeated the two formidable imperialist enemies in one generation and ushered in a new history of great victory on this land.

Kim Il Sung Square distinguished itself as the symbol of victory of our country and it became a historic place demonstrating the infinite pride and self-esteem of Juche Korea which holds up peerlessly great men generation after generation.

As we have the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un, another outstanding leader, Kim Il Sung Square proudly reviewed the past century of Juche Korea and greeted the solemn beginning of a new Juche century which will further prosper.

Thanks to the respected General Secretary, our Republic will add luster to its name as a powerful independent state in the center of the world, an invincible powerful state which steadfastly safeguards the dignity of the country and people and their right to existence and development with the strongest self-defence capability and a promising country which achieves prosperity with the firm will of independence and creates the people’s greatest happiness.

Kim Il Sung Square, the pride of our country, will shine forever as a square of victory and honor witnessing the proud history of our state which will last for hundreds and thousands of years along with this absolute truth.
