A memorial service for Choi Hong Hi, ex-president ofthe International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), took place at the PatrioticMartyrs Cemetery in Sinmi-ri of the DPRK on June 15 on the occasion of the 22ndanniversary of his death.
It was attended by executive members of the ITF andthe International Martial Art Games Committee, representatives of nationalassociations, Taekwon-Doists and persons related to martial arts from differentcountries and the bereaved family members.
On hand were officials of the Korean Taekwon-DoCommittee, relevant officials, Taekwon-Do instructors and players of the DPRK.
Laid before the grave of Choi Hong Hi were wreaths inthe name of the ITF, the International Martial Art Games Committee, the KoreanTaekwon-Do Committee, the Committee for Aiding Overseas Compatriots of the DPRKand the Overseas Koreans' Affairs Administration, and bouquets as well.
The participants paid a silent tribute to the memoryof Choi Hong Hi.
Ri Yong Son, chairman of the International Martial ArtGames Committee who is also president of the ITF, made a memorial address.
Referringto the exploits of Choi Hong Hi who devoted his whole life to the creation anddevelopment of Taekwon-Do, he noted that today the ITF has developed into a prestigiousand proud martial arts organization embracing 145 national associations andtens of millions of trainees.
Saying that the name of Choi Hong Hi, who is immortalin the embrace of the genuine motherland, the homeland of Taekwon-Do, will be engravedforever in the minds of Taekwon-Doists and martial artists the world over, heexpressed his will to make every effort to spread the orthodox Taekwon-Do tothe world under the ideal of justice, peace, friendship and unity in thefuture, too.
That day, the participants looked round the Taekwon-DoHoly House and watched a demonstration performance given by instructors andplayers of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee at the Taekwon-Do Hall.
