Permanent Mission of DPRK at UN Issues Press Statement

The permanent mission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the United Nations released the following press statement on November 6:

Recently the European Union submitted again a "resolution" taking issue with the human rights situation in the DPRK to the Third Committee of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly.

The EU, at the instigation of the U.S., has annually conducted such moves as submitting "human rights resolution" against the DPRK for more than 20 years.

This is a politically-motivated provocation aimed to tarnish the image of the dignified DPRK and bring down its ideology and social system behind the signboard of "human rights protection".

The DPRK permanent mission to the UN categorically rejects the "resolution" submitted by the EU again as a document for ill-intended political propaganda and a confrontational document contrary to the UN Charter, which stipulates respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs, as well as to the efforts of UN member states to ensure the genuine protection and promotion of human rights through dialogue and cooperation.

Today, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and universal norms of international human rights law have become a political means for interfering in the internal affairs of other countries by the U.S. and Western countries and the genuine dignity and rights of mankind have not been realized.

This reality is unthinkable apart from the moves of the dishonest forces perverting the universal definition of human rights for their geopolitical purposes.

The harmful consequences, the European countries styling themselves "advanced nation in human rights" have inflicted on the work for protecting and promoting human rights in the world, are very serious and nothing can cover up them.

Such institutional and widespread human rights abuses as racial discrimination, sexual assault, maltreatment of immigrants, human trafficking and police violence rampant in Europe go to clearly prove how absurd and hypocritical the European politicians’ harping on "human rights" is.

Many refugees, who left homes for living, lost their lives in the Mediterranean Sea and even survivors became victims of all kinds of crimes, being subjected to cold treatment and contempt, anywhere they go.

This horrible reality is attributable to the bloody act of the European "human rights missionaries" who absolutely followed the U.S. strategy for hegemony.

EU, which should sit in the human rights dock to face severe judgment by the international community, is trying to assess and admonish over the human rights situation in other countries at will, far from reflecting on itself.

This is the most extreme case of guilty party filing the suit first and an intolerable mockery of and insult to human rights.

No international law authorized EU to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states with its double-dealing criterion.

The EU should bear in mind that the more it clings to the illegal anti-DPRK "human rights" racket, following the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK, the more it will bring to light its poor plight of being plunged deeper into "strategic subjugation", instead of "strategic autonomy".

The human rights system and situation of the DPRK are estimated by its people themselves, not by hypocrites in other continents across the ocean.

The DPRK will never tolerate any attempt of the hostile forces seeking to deprive its people of their happy and independent life with ill-minded repugnance toward the Korean-style socialist system. It will more reliably defend the genuine human rights of its people through the most responsible and proactive efforts.
