The Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital, located in the Munsu area in DPRK’s capital city of Pyongyang, is divided into a four-storey outpatient area and an eight-storey inpatient area plus an optician.
The modern hospital was built at the initiative of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who spares nothing for the people. He gave instructions on the location, scale and layout of the hospital on several occasions. He took measures to dispatch an efficient construction group and supply materials for the construction.
One day in May 2016 he visited the hospital under construction, saying that he had long planned to build a high-end general ophthalmic hospital for people and that it was what he had wanted to do without fail. While looking round the operating theatre, inpatients rooms and treatment rooms, he underlined the need to build the hospital in such a way that the treatment and convenience for patients can be ensured at the highest possible level. Later he often checked the progress of the construction project and took firsthand steps to supply modern facilities and fixtures for the operation of the hospital and the material and technical means for the optician.
On October 17 he visited the completed medical facility. He looked round the wards with advanced treatment equipment and well-designed fixtures and the optician with glasses and optical apparatuses. He said in delight that the hospital is a world-class facility equipped with all required equipment and a people’s hospital whose everything satisfies him much and which we can be proud of before the world, and that his another desire for the people was realized.
Currently, the hospital successfully carries out surgeries of various ophthalmic diseases like vitreous retinal disorder which is worldwide regarded as obstinate. Many people whose treatment was once almost impossible have recovered their eyesight at the hospital.
