I am 98 years old. As I greet the founding anniversary of the Korean People’s Army every year, the unforgettable days of the Fatherland Liberation War are still fresh in my memory.
It was on February 8, 1951 when the KPA units were advancing southward while frustrating enemy attack through a powerful counteroffensive and close pursuit.
Many things vanish from memory with the lapse of time, but I still vividly remember we celebrated the founding anniversary of the KPA that year with confidence in our might and victory in war.
That day we filled up bomb craters and removed stones and weeds to build a playground where we played a football match between platoons amid enthusiastic cheers.
I also played and cheered, missing the fallen fellow soldiers.
The most conspicuous and popular event was knee-to-knee fight, which drew all officers and men but those on aerial inspection and guard duty.
We held a modest celebration party after the sports games. The then assistant company commander in charge of cultural affairs made a congratulatory address to the soldiers of the company and proposed paying a silent tribute to those who dedicated their lives to war victory. Then he proposed toasting the war victory and the beautiful future of the country, saying that they could have frustrated the armed invasion of imperialists at a single effort and won victories in battles as they had Kim Il Sung , an ever-victorious and iron-willed brilliant commander, as their Supreme Commander.
We drank and sang heartily with confidence in victory and beautiful hope for the future.
We could emerge victorious in the three-year-long war since we cherished the faith in and optimism about sure victory while enduring ordeals and sacrifices.
I believe that the Korean People’s Army which followed the path of victory and glory under the leadership of the great brilliant commanders would always win victory after victory as it is led by Kim Jong Un , supreme commander of the armed forces of the Republic.
