It was one day in May 1961 when the project for expanding the Wasandong-Ryongsong road was under way.
During a break in the work, Chairman Kim Jong Il met a grandmother who came there to take coal frequently coming out from the place.
He asked if coal had run out at her house. Unaware of him, she said that the coal is too worthy to be buried underground.
Saying that she is right, he said the coal, although not abundant, can't be buried underground, and that students should learn from the people in this point and he personally put coal in her bucket with a shovel.
Moved by the personality of Kim Jong Il for the people, she said that she heard even the son of President Kim Il Sung was at the construction site and that she wanted to meet him.
With a smile on his face, the Chairman said that she would meet him without fail in the future as she ardently wishes.
After knowing though belatedly that the man who was kind to her was the Chairman, she rushed to him.
Kim Jong Il warmly took the hands of her who was moved to tears and said that he was also the son of the working people and that he would do everything for the people.
Son of the working people!
His words to an ordinary grandmother reflect the world of the peerlessly great man who is determined to lead a glorious life as the son of the people. -0-
