One day in March 1980 Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the Pyongyang Film Development Centre newly built on the banks of the Taedong River.
While looking round different lines of the centre, he paid special attention to the treatment of waste water which went through detoxification and biological experiment through fishing.
He headed for an inspection tank for treated water.
The tank was designed to examine any remaining toxic substances in the treated water by means of live fish before discharging it into the Taedong River.
After looking into the tank for a good while, the Chairman said that it would be an issue if a fish dies in the tank.
An official said that materials obtained from treating the waste water were gathered so far and sent to the Pyongyang School Things Factory to produce pigments for students.
Nodding slightly, the Chairman said that it was needed to complete the research to treat the waste water produced in the course of developing films so as to prevent the pollution of the Taedong, warning ill treatment of waste water could pollute the river.
Only then could the officials understand why he paid so close attention to the treatment of waste water.
