One day in October 1961, President Kim Il Sung visited the then Ryongchon Agricultural Cooperative in Wonsan City, Kangwon Province of the DPRK.
The President met peasants to learn in detail about their living conditions and the amount of crop distribution for each house.
After a while, he said that the per-hectare yield should be increased by applying a lot of manure to farm fields in order to improve the peasants' living standards. And he advised that it is needed to make good use of enough sources of self-sufficing manure as the cooperative is near the city.
He told an official accompanying him that the city should help the cooperative well, and gave a task of collecting plenty of manure for the countryside.
Then, he called on the cooperative to reap good crops by improving farm fields and roads and applying plenty of manure, saying that the cooperative can lead a better life if it plants sweet potatoes and potatoes in addition to major grains and concentrates efforts on fruit farming by making good use of the mountain at the back of the village.
He also chose a site for new modern houses and took a step for their construction.
Looking up to the benevolent image of the President who spent a long time to improve the living standards of peasants, the officials vowed to turn their village into a modern socialist one, good to live in. -0-
