Consistent Policy of WPK and DPRK

Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- A new school year began in the DPRK with due ceremonies at universities and schools across the country. Education is an important undertaking that gives continuity to our revolution and propels the development of the country. So, definite priority should be given to the educational work, and this work for the rising generation should neither be interrupted nor neglected even though there are lots of difficulties. This is the idea and policy of the Workers' Party of Korea and the state on attaching importance to education. A new heyday of the development of Juche-oriented education is being ushered in the country under the wise guidance of the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un who regards the educational work as the first state affair and spares nothing for the rising generations. The universal 12-year compulsory education was enforced and children's camps and palaces including the Songdowon International Children's Camp and the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace were renovated. Remodeled were many schools, branch schools and kindergartens across the country, and teachers training colleges were built in all provinces. Under the loving care of the Party and the state which set it as a consistent and eternal, national policy to provide all the schoolchildren with uniforms and school things at the state expense, a well-regulated system for supplying school uniforms, bags and footwear to all the schoolchildren in the country has been established with the factories producing them built in all provinces. Mindulle-branded notebooks and other school things are produced on a normal basis for the children and schoolers. Last year the respected General Secretary took a measure to operate an emergency system to bring the children and schoolers in the flood-hit areas to the capital city of Pyongyang and offer them upbringing and education in a safe and convenient environment while taking care of them at the state expense. And he personally visited the classrooms temporarily arranged at the April 25 Hostel to learn about the educational preparations for the new school term and made painstaking efforts to this work. His noble image has been deeply kept in the minds of the Korean people. Witnessing the reality that the educational issue directly related to the future of their children was dealt with at important meetings to result in substantial changes, our people keenly feel how great our Party and state's idea of prioritizing education is.
