Mt. Paektu is the highest mountain of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It is standing in the northern part of Korea and it is 2,750 metres above the sea level.
The area of Mt. Paektu has full conditions to be developed into a peculiar complex and four-season mountain tourist area.
It has another charm as a scenic spot for sports tourism.
The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited the city of Samjiyon in Ryanggang Province with the area of Mt. Paektu in July 2024.
The field guidance he gave on the day was aimed at face-lifting Samjiyon to be a new and innovative cultured city in the light of the daily-growing requirements of today's reality.
That day, Kim Jong Un gave important instructions for building a tourist resort in the world-famous Mt. Paektu and making tourism a major driving force of the development of the region.
The nature in the area of Mt. Paektu consisting of forests and mountains is valuable resources of the country.
There is a wonderful sports village here in the area. Many people have visited it for winter sports activities since it started operation in December last year.
Skiing draws special attention in the winter sports tourism.
The joy of climbing up the top of Pegae Peak by cableway and overlooking the city of Samjiyon is as great as skiing, skating and sleighing.
It is often said that the air is thin and dry around the skiing grounds in the highlands as trees do not grow well. But the Pegaebong Ski Resort has an elevation very appropriate for skiing and is surrounded by thick forests, so the air is fresh there.
All the visitors to the resort say that once they enter it, they don't know the passage of time and that they want to go there again.
Not only the area of Pegae Peak but also the Phothae area, an undeveloped area in the city of Samjiyon, can be regarded as a suitable area for mountain tourism for sports and experience for its large amount of snowfall and natural, geographical, meteorological and climatic conditions
Ski and tourist resorts will be built around Mt.Pukphothae in the area of Mt. Paektu, the Samjiyon Airport rebuilt and a touristrailway laid in the future.
Then, the area of Mt. Paektu will be frequented by not only the Koreans but also foreigners for its unique charm as a scenic spot for sports tourism.
