The tumour research section of the Clinical Research Institute of Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences has successfully developed and introduced intervention method in the treatment of liver cancer.
Intervention method is to insert some devices into the focus inside the body to change the progress of a disease or improve health. Applying this method is a global trend in treating various diseases.
Chief Choe Won Gyom and other researchers at the section started research to apply this method in the treatment of liver cancer long ago.
The most difficult problem in their research was to develop a radio wave induction device effective for the treatment.
Proceeding from the view that its development is not merely an issue related with medical science and practice but an important issue that matters in developing the country’s medical science and technology, they worked hard in cooperation with experts from relevant sectors.
Their strenuous efforts paid off. They finally succeeded in developing the medical the device in an original way, thus bringing about an improvement in the treatment of liver cancer.
Many of their papers including “Clinical study of application of Yashiro catheter and RH catheter in the chemical therapy for hepatic artery embolization” were published in domestic and international medical journals, contributing considerably to the development of medical science and technology.
